Interesting times

This is a peek of bookseller with books, and wine.

This past week has been rather exceptional, and yes, I am still talking books. My book launch went well, with a good crowd out to support me, and Paradox Books, through whom I am selling my book locally. My old friend Liz, from Melbourne, introduced me and spoke about knowing me from age fourteen. She spoke so well, and was kind, as she’d promised. Then it was up to me to read a passage from my book. Fortunately I love reading aloud, and enjoyed this bit very much. Then came the feeling of being a little bit famous, as there was a queue for me to sign books. I would have posted a shot of me, but decided this image was better.

I was very pleased with the number of books sold at the launch, as I had no idea how this novel would be received. And later in the week when I decide to peruse Paradox Books in Devonport village, I was thrilled to see this notice on a display of my books.

Gosh, I thought, my face reddening. This is exciting.

And then, yesterday, I was reading the best selling New Zealand fiction list from Nielsen, on our weekly write-up by Steve Braunias in his Reading Room column, and honestly couldn’t believe my eyes, because Mrs Forsythe was number 8 out of the top ten books of fiction. Yes, I am showing off a bit here, but truly, I am humbled.

I don’t wish you to think I do nothing but write, and go on about this book, because I do get out and have fun in different ways. We have a Japanese restaurant Danryu down the road, and hearing its good reputation booked in with some friends. It wasn’t just good, it was stupendously good, and the host/chef a character and his wife delightful. So why not post this great image of my expression as chef presents the table with a bowl of agedashi tofu (silken tofu with sweetened sauce) heated in the most theatrical way.

    • Yvonne, I am both surprised and pleased that readers are enjoying this story. Whether Mrs Forsythe remains as a top seller this week, I have to wait and see.

Will post more info about Amsterdam soon. Now, that’s exciting.

  1. Congratulations Vivienne. I don’t blame you one bit for devoting space to your new publication – so much goes into the writing of the book and then the whole process of getting it published…why not give it the much deserved space here?

Wonderful way to celebrate with a delicious meal at a Japanese restaurant.

Thanks for sharing a slice of your life with your readers.

    • Thank you Louise, I don’t seem to be able to get away from my book right now, and wish I could post about another topic. I really appreciate your comments. I’ve never been one to blow my own trumpet, but feel maybe it’s time I did. People are enjoying the book, and that is the main thing.
