DustyShelves Book Reviews and BookBits

I apologise for the lack of posts and comments on others posts. The intention has been to write about something other than THAT book (a sketch for a change perhaps?), but truly it’s a topic I can’t get rid of, just yet. I’ve yet to prepare words for a speech, and practice reading a passage aloud for the book for the launch this coming Thursday, and also be part of the gang creating canapés for the occasion. Boy, have I been stressed! Even my usual bubble-bath soak hasn’t rid me of my anxiousness. And then, last Thursday I received the first review of Mrs Forsythe by Terry Toner from Dusty Shelves. (See image above).

Terry Toner says … What an AMAZING read – it’s such a gentle read. Mrs Forsythe has retired from teaching because she is at THAT age – her husband has passed away – now will she be able to do what she bloody well likes? In this book she DOES what she bloody well likes – whether it is successful is up to the reader. A range of characters come through her life – some to visit – some to stay – some are let loose to live their own lives with or without Mrs Forsythe and there is THE family.

I just felt so “cosy” during and after I read this book – nothing was rushed – life just seemed to come and go – set in Wellington in the 70s.After I had finished reading this book I hoped that I had just finished reading a “future New Zealand Classic”. This book just seemed to hum along at its own speed and its own vibe.

I was lucky enough to have a full day to read and relax with this book – I was justly rewarded by having the time and the right book.I hope you are able to find your own copy and enjoy it as much as I have – it has been a real joy to find such a book. A VERY special book.

It is great to feel a smile returning, and although other reviews may not wax so lyrical, I shall just bathe in the warmth of the first reviewer’s comments for a little while yet.

I am looking forward to reading about Mrs Forsythe myself. Good luck in this adventurously, busy time.
