Books and more books

Last week I put up a new page on my WordPress site about my books. I have yet to flesh it out, with links to reviews and the like, but take a look, I am open to advice.

This week I received cartons filled with my new book, Mrs Forsythe, and then a different kind of busyness began. My publicist had sent me a list of reviewers I was to send copies to, so they could read it and make fabulous comments (I hope!). Every part in publishing a novel takes time, and wrapping and addressing each book is just part of that process.

I want to thank Copy Press/RealNZBooks, who have produced a very fine product for me. Everyone I have worked with has been professional and proficient, although I must single out the designer, Suzanne North, whose great ideas made the cover come to life. It has been three months from when I first made contact with the company to the completion of my book – a short time in the life of producing this novel, which, including the writing, has taken me over two years.

I have a launch planned locally for March 20. And a live interview on National Radio on 26 March. An author’s talk follows at Unity Books Wellington, a few days later. This city is where the book is set, so it is quite important I speak there.

I have an article about me and my writing life coming out in our local paper, The Flagstaff, next week. I hope it reads well, as we have an excellent bookstore across the road which is stocking my novel, and I do want it to sell.

There is still more for me to do, like the 600-1000 word article I’ve been asked to write for a website on the themes of the book. I am putting this off for a couple of days, however, as I am keen to do an initial sketch for a graphic novel – my next book project.
