Slowly surfacing

Oh, it’s been a while, but I am once more feeling the push to write, and draw. So bear with me while I tell you a little about the two images you are about to see, both claiming my attention on the same day.

Smart watch.

I shall start with the first image, which shows an item I would never have thought of owning had I not recently needed hospital treatment, with my heart deciding it show me just how flippant it could be – a week after my successful nasal operation. A trip to A&E and a pronouncement of ‘nothing sinister’ was made. I am improving, but not back to my usual fast walking, just yet. Well, at least I’m walking!

A good friend of mine, who has a similar blipping heart condition, suggested I get a smart watch, as recommended by her doctor for her. Today I took mine for its first outing, although I hadn’t yet figured how to drive it. Thanks to my more technologically minded husband, the watch has been set up with the functions I think I’ll need. Apart from it swamping my wrist, I now await to see how its magical powers function. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes.

The second thing I’ve produced is a small charcoal sketch, after McCahon, a well-known New Zealand artist. This is a ‘token’ birthday gift to someone who is a an art collector.

I thought it would be fun to do. I think an old thin black wooden frame might suit it.

Oh, I almost forgot! I did one more sketch towards my graphic novel too; intro to my Piano Teacher sequence. This will be on one A4 page. And, next week I hope to put colour to this section.

    • Unfortunately it pays to be smart to run one. Even with help from husband, and the web, it has prove a piece of learning which has already taken too much of my time. My son, however loves his, and has all the apps he needs for a multitude of things.

I’ll report back in a while about how I am managing my watch.

  1. I am so glad that you feel well enough to write and draw. Keep well and keep drawing. I too, love the sketch of the boy at the piano. It will look wonderful in your novel. I look forward to your following post.

  2. I have resisted buying a smart watch for years. I always wear a watch but I like to wear watches to march my clothes or my mood. I certainly can understand wearing one for health reasons. Glad to see that you are sketching. Art has a calming effect and must surely be good for the heart. Stay well Vivienne!

    • Thanks for your comment Louise. Art is calming, and I would be lost without it in my life. And yes, I am trying to stay well, and get back to my usual daily walking routine. I’d say, stay away from a smart watch if you are not such a whizz with electronic devices. It’s taken quite some time scrolling the ‘how to’ information online about to upload, and use particular apps. The battery can overheat too, and burn the wrist!!! Hoping that I can now take it for walks safely.

  3. Hi Vivienne, that’s a cool timepiece you’ve got there! Do they come in other colours? As a cyclist, I’d like to get a Garmin. A bit pricy though. It’s good to hear you’re on the mend, and I like the sketches especially the boy playing the piano. You can see he’s really concentrating to get those notes perfect. Noce work!

    • Hi Jason, I know that my son who is an avid cyclist really gets good use from his smart watch. They are pricy, but if you’re wanting to challenge your fitness etc, maybe they’re worth it.

Yes, good to feel creative again. Got to get cracking on that graphic novel!
