I sat down to begin a pencil sketch this morning, but was diverted by some cloud drawings I found in the sketch pad, so … I decided to put these together for this week’s post. Just a brief description of the mediums used, and not so much of a story this time. The top six sketches are from the Devonport area near my home, the seventh sketched on Waiheke Island, and the eighth done in Port Douglas Australia.
I usually sketch out the scene quickly, returning to fill out detail. I so love sketching clouds.
Lovely cloud drawings! ☁️

I’m so envious! You have such beautiful views, Vivienne. I especially like the first one. Such atmosphere in those clouds. By the way, when you state, ‘I sat down to…’ Are you outside live sketching?

Hi Jason, good to hear from you. I often sit outside to sketch but yesterday decided to set up a Still Life. I’ve made it too big, but will finish off today. Just been walking along the waterfront which is just six minutes away. I took one phot of great clouds. Looking forward to sketching that one.

Thanks Vivienne. Lovely pictures and always interesting to see an artist’s process in action.

Thanks Phil, there is always quite some action when I’m scrawling across a page.

These are so beautiful Vivienne. I especially love Port Douglas. The sphere is so serene as if time stands this. Looking forward to the next series of clouds.

Thanks Yvonne, I think there’ll be another cloud sketch soon, as the sky was extraordinary yesterday and a captured it on my phone camera.
